Pulitzer Prize for Drama, 2005 Tony Award Best Play, 2005

1964. In a Catholic school the severe and traditional Principal is opposed to the more modern views of the charismatic priest and views his affinity with the students, and to the only black boy in the school in particular, with a deep-seated suspicion. Sister Aloysius’ experience and instinct leave no room for doubt and she vows to evict Father Flynn from the parish. “In the pursuit of wrong-doing, one steps away from God.” Yet, how does faith align with our convictions? Can it be that it is only in doubt that we come to know who we are…?

Congratulations! Incredible work! (FL)

Fabulous. A huge thumbs up! (YK)

Congratulations! I went to the play thinking that I’d be constantly reminded of the film. But I was hooked from the first scene, as if I hadn’t even read the screenplay – the performances were powerful and passionate and, without all those famous faces to distract you, very convincing! By the end I’d forgotten all about Streep & Co. Some interesting directorial inspirations! Undoubtedly brilliant! (AZ)

Doubtlessly successful! (YH)

…Thoroughly entertaining, cleverly staged and the actors did a perfect job in bringing the whole story to life. (HP)

Billiant production, well acted, well directed! (MT)

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent Performance! We really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one!!!!! (EM)

Congratulations on another fantastic production!
The acting was excellent, especially Hilary Ives. I loved the basketball scene. Paul Stewart is so talented and gave the illusion of being surrounded by lots of kids perfectly. The music worked very well in setting the mood and the lighting/scenery very well thought out. As always your attention to detail makes all the difference and maintains the high quality of your productions.
I liked your programme very much too! (KL)

…an inspired choice of play for your space and talent pool. The set impressed me – I loved the way it was deeper stage left which made for a greater sense of space than you actually had. … you allowed the question mark to hang over the characters’ veracity and at the same time, pulled them all into a cohesive interpretation, not very easy as the whole point of the play is to still leave the audience with “Doubt” too. … overall I enjoyed the almost cinematic use of music throughout and I thought the final crescendo of music, lighting and performance was wonderfully dramatic and apt.
…very impressive … congratulations! (JB)

Well done! We want more (no doubt)!!! (JO)

Brilliant! A stunning performance!
I was totally absorbed. Congratulations on a superb offering. (JD)

What fabulous talent, something to admire and to be inspired by.
…thank you very much for a wonderful evening. (SP)

Just saw the DVD of “Doubt”.
It was great, but even with Meryl Streep, I prefer the play. Thank you… (HJ)

The Cyprus Mail
by Chris Ekin-Wood, 28 May 2009:

A great theatrical occasion by both author and director.

The cast of four, tightly directed by Andreas Araouzos,
played with great feeling for this work of immense proportion.

A towering performance by Hilary Ives.
